Advice...ASAP

I need to know what the best infant car seat is to get and the safest. I have been hearing so much lately about mom's that have chosen the seat they have based purely on "looks". This absolutely floors me and I refuse to be one of those mothers. I was to ensure that Skylar is going to be safe, even if her little seat isn't the cutest. Safety first.

So any advice would be great or if you could point me in the right direction...I would greatly appreciate it! :)

I believe the Chicco car seats are the highest rated for infants. I have one and I see people with the same one EVERYWHERE. I have just been researching the same thing for a bigger seat for Booga! So overwhelming! But I definitely recommend Chicco.

The top-rated Britax Roundabout E9L0240, $230, while pricey, earned high marks overall. The less expensive Evenflo Titan 5 convertible car seat, $70, also performed well in tests. I found this information here: http://www.consumersunion.org/products/car-seat403.htm

My BFF has the Britax for her twins and LOVES them!

Ummm, I totally chose based on looks.

AND SAFETY.

but also looks.

Gosh!!!

Chicco is the highest rated, we went with Graco Snug Ride, which is second. I don't know what it was when we bought it, that was 3 years ago.

We signed up for consumer reports online and researched which was the best. It ended up being the cheapest one that got the highest safety ratings. I would check there first for the latest. I think it cost like $20 for a year membership but you can use it for so many other things too.

We bought the Graco Snug Ride that comes with the travel system (car seat, stroller and car seat base) and I absolutely loved it (now Jayla's getting too big to use the car seat but I still use the stroller and it's great.)
I'd highly recommend Graco Snug Ride, they are definitely really safe and also easy to handle :)

We bought a Graco Sungride too. At the time someone had done a safety test of a bunch of seats and the Graco was the only one that passed. Then it turned out the test was wrong because they did it at a much higher speed than they were supposed to, so all the seats passed, but I figured if the Snugride passed at the higher speed, that's the one I wanted. This was a couple years ago though. My sis is pregnant and I bought her a Graco travel system with the Snugride.

Now that Eliana is older, she's in a Britax Roundabout. I got it on clearance since the pattern was being discontinued.

With any car seat, it's mostly important that it be installed correctly. You can have the safest seat out there, but if it's not in right, then it pointless.

Also, carseat.org is a great website to check out if you have questions about any carseat (or even the vehicle you drive, installing, etc)

I'm glad to see people recommending stuff I've heard of! Lord, I hear about all these fancy schmany brand names and I'm so in the dark because Target and Babies R Us is my haven for baby stuff. We went with Eddie Bauer because it's high quality and gender neutral. We got the stroller/infant seat combo and I LOVE IT. We got it at Babies R Us on sale and you pop the carrier (which is the infant car seat up to 22 lbs...which Bay is still nowhere near) into your car on the base. When you are ready to walk around, you click it onto the stroller and go. SO SIMPLE. And we went with a brown because it's gender neutral (and my fave color).

Graco snug ride is my favorite and love it for an infant. We then bought Britax once Max grew out of the car seat. I did not buy a Britax for the infant because I wanted to be able to take the car seat out with me to shop or dine or whatever. never wanted to wake a sleeping baby.

I would look into the convertible carseats. Like Britax. I wish I would have gone with one of those. I like my Evenflo travel system, but the carseat/base was difficult to install correctly and now it is recommended that the handle on the carseat be locked in the "sitting position" behind the baby which causes the front seats to have to be pushed all the way up, really uncomfy for me and a passenger and I have a 4runner. I would just be sure to install and like the carseat before you throw away the box.
