My Door at Work

I stopped by my work last week with the baby. I had been hearing that people had been asking about us and wanted to see Skylar and since I was out I figured it would be nice. I was pleasantly surprised when I saw my door. My boss had taken a bunch of the pictures that I had sent her and put them up all over my door announcing our little arrival. I think that she did a wonderful job.
While I was there everyone was telling me how much they missed me and can't wait for me to come back. It was sweet and very nice to know that I am missed. I have to admit that I am not missing being at work. I am still enjoying my time at home. I am enjoying the quality time with my precious daughter. So much of me can't imagine going back to work and then there is just as big of a part that can't imagine not having a job. I am so torn!

Ahh! So sweet. Not a lot of people would take the time to do that. =)

What a sweet collage of pictures she put up. That was too nice. It is good to know that your are missed...I hear you on not missing it though. You have your new baby & it is even hard to think about work. Been there:)

I will need you help with this transition in September! Up until today I was planning on being a sahm. Well I was hired for a job I applied for in Dec. and interviewed for in Jan. (took them 2 months to hire me! jeez!) So now at 26 weeks pg I have to find a day care and figure out how to balance work and baby. I'm not ready to process that.

That's awesome..I was going to ask the other day if being home with Skylar made you want to stay there :)

Hope things are going well!

How thoughtful of your boss! My boss was totally opposite, infact, I had to train my replacement! Another store in itself. I probably should thank him though because I couldn't see going back to that horrible place when I have a wonderful little girl at home. But your work seems much nicer to work in... from what I can see! lol

I haven't been reading long enough to know what you do, but it sounds like you have a wonderful, supportive boss. Given that fact, I am just going to offer this. I work part time, but still consider myself a stay at home mom. My kids (two little boys--2 yrs and 6 months) are either with me, their daddy or one of their grandmas. I work from home part of the time, and then when I am at work the boys are with family. I'm also blessed enough to have a job where I set my own schedule.

I've heard of a lot of companies that will let their employees bring babies to work with them, or work from home. And the thing is, it never hurts to ask.

Whatever works best for your family is ultimately the best choice, though, and if that is working and having a baby in daycare, that's great. I just thought I'd offer my experience since I know how hard it can be imagining going back to work while snuggling a precious new baby. :)

It is a hard and very personal decision. I like working because it gives me time to be an adult and talk about adult things. I would have loved to work like maybe a 4 day week or something, but we cannot afford it. It helps a lot knowing that I have my aunt to keep Braelyn. You have to do what is best for you and your family though. How long do you have for maternity leave?

That is so sweet of your boss to do that.

I have to agree that becoming a stay at home mom is a very personal decision. Good luck trying to make that choice. You will make the right choice for your family.

I would LOVE to be a stay at home mom, but I think I'd still want to work at least part time to get out of the house and have some adult interactions. It's different for everyone, so maybe you can try to go back part time when your leave is up, and try that for a while.

I agree with Jiff- it's a different decision for everyone. I think working part time or working full time and part of it from home is the way to go if you can leave your baby with family. That way you get the best of both worlds. I don't think I would ever be happy being a stay at home mom. I want a career damnit!

I couldn't imagine going back to work too but now that I am back things are going okay. I work from home two days a week so I feel like I have a good balance of being with her while also doing the career thing. Plus, I think she really likes daycare which is a bonus.

That was really nice of your boss! (given the history there and all!)

Going back to work after Ellie was VERY hard. I cried for weeks. But now I wouldn't have it any other way. We have a wonderful home daycare that has a preschool teacher on staff so I get both for the price of one! No sending her to preschool in the a.m. and paying for that, then sending her to daycare in the afternoon and paying for that.

She has learned so much more being in that environment that she ever would have staying home with me.

Good luck with your decision... it is such a hard one for us mommies!
