Today's Nap

Today for nap time, we tried something new. I rocked Skylar for a bit, but she was fighting sleep. So, I put her in her crib (which she NEVER sleeps in!!!) and turned on her mobile. She sat in there talking to the animals and then within five minutes, there was silence. I went in there to find that my sweet little girl put herself to sleep without even crying. It was awesome.

Now, we just need her to get back to sleeping 6-8 hours at night!!! :)

I am way open for suggestions. I know all you mommy's out there have tried many things, so I would love to hear what worked for you!

Wish I could put Allie in and she's stay still lying down to fall asleep. She immediately sits/stands up and starts pitching a fit and I just can't listen to it.

I won't say I'm jealous even though I really am. But I won't admit it :)

I HIGHLY recommend reading Dr. Marc Weissbluth's "Healthy Sleep Habits, Happy Child" - its especially good for naps.

And, if and when you and Skylar are ready for some form of sleep-through-the-night training, I would recommend Dr. Ferber's book. I wrote about this one on my blog if you want to check it out - it was the BEST thing I ever did, honestly! Sounds like Skylar is on th right track, tho - great job!!

It's really good to rock them until they are calm and sleepy, then put them to bed still slightly awake. It helps them learn to self-soothe and put themselves to sleep. :)

Babies are hard because something that may work for a couple weeks suddenly won't work anymore. Teething, gas, reflux, growth spurts, and other developmental things always interrupt sleep.

I tried the "cry it out" and hated it. I felt like I was abandoning Bayley and that felt terrible. We have our nightly routine of bath, bottle, bed. She gets her bath, is rubbed down with lavendar lotion and put into her jammies, then she drinks her bottle while I hold her and sing to her. She calms down and once she gets into her "nesting" phase (where she is trying over and over to get comfortable) I put her down and let her get comfy in her bed and she goes to sleep. It's awesome. The first year is hard no matter what, though. Sleep is what I miss most about being a mom. :)
